As the name implies, Free MP3 Cutter and Editor is an application that cuts and edits MP3 audio files. That’s not all it does, though. Free MP3 Cutter and Editor will also handle WAV files. The software will allow you to edit audio files by cutting and trimming them, and will even allow you to fade tracks in and out. You can also use Free MP3 Cutter and Editor to normalize the volume of an audio file and convert tracks between mono and stereo.
The interface is simple. When the program is launched, you are greeted with a single window. To begin working, you must first select an audio file. Free MP3 Cutter and Editor supports dragging and dropping, making file selection easy. Once the file has been selected, the software displays a standard waveform. Cutting and trimming is simple. To begin, just highlight the portion of the waveform that needs editing, and use the buttons at bottom of the window to do so. The entire track can be highlighted at once to apply a change to the entire file.
When you’re done editing, you can preview your changes by clicking the green play button at the top of the window. Once you’re satisfied with your work, you can save it in whichever file format you choose by clicking on the save button at the top of the window. The software allows you to save in both MP3 and WAV formats.
Free MP3 Cutter and Editor may not be the most advanced audio editor available, but it’s simplicity is one of it’s strengths. It doesn’t require any special skills to use. It is fast and doesn’t demand a powerful computer to run. It’s an excellent tool for simple tasks, like normalizing the volume of your MP3 collection or trimming applause from live recordings.
